Ms. Sylvia Tan is a Principal Counselling Psychologist, Assistant Director with the Community Psychology Hub (CPH). She received her professional training as a psychologist from Australia and holds a Master’s degree in Psychology (Counselling) from Curtin University of Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Murdoch University. Her experience working as a psychologist spans over 15 years in Singapore and Australia where she worked for both government sectors, as well as the private sectors. She has vast experience in working with various individuals, including children, with mental health issues in the community settings as well as providing forensic reports to the courts for divorce related matters both in Australia and in Singapore.

Sylvia believes that quality mental health services should be easily accessible to the community and is passionate about providing quality psychological care to individuals and families in the community, especially to the vulnerable and those in need. As she felt that it was her calling to serve the community, Sylvia decided to join CPH in September 2018, where she can live out her personal mission since CPH’s vision and mission are very much aligned to her own values and beliefs.

Sylvia is the Psychological Services department lead, providing the overall strategic planning, overseeing the professional development and management of the Psychological Services (PS) Team. The PS team supports social service organisations and other community agencies in providing psychological assessments and interventions to individuals and families within the community who may be experiencing psychological distress, family conflict, marital issues or crisis. The PS Team also provides custody evaluation reports to the Family Justice Courts and the Syariah Court for decisions surrounding parenting and care arrangements for children involved in divorce proceedings.

Sylvia is currently a registered psychologist and registered clinical supervisor with the Singapore Registrar of Psychologist, and associate member of the Singapore Mediation Centre.
